What We Believe

The following are the core beliefs of Greencastle Christian Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.  All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God the Father

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  The first member of the Trinity is God the Father.  He is infinite in power, presence and knowledge; meaning He has no limitations.  God the Father can only be known through Jesus.
Genesis 1:1 & 1:26-27 | Genesis 3:22 | Psalm 145:3 | Isaiah 9:6 | Matthew 28:19 | John 1:1 | John 14:6 | Acts 4:24 | Colossians 1:16 | Hebrews 1:3 | Revelation 4:11

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God, the second member of the Trinity.  He was virgin born, sinless, died on the cross for our sins, was raised from the dead on the third day, and is coming again.
Isaiah 9:6 |  Matthew 1:22-23 | John 1:1-5 | John 8:58 | John 14:10-30 |Acts 1:9-11 | I Corinthians 15:3-4 | I Timothy 6:14-15 | Titus 2:13 | Hebrews 4:14-15 | Revelation 1:8

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity.  The Holy Spirit is promised to those who profess faith in Jesus.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in making right choices.  As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.
John 14:16-17 | John 16:7-13, 17 | Acts 1:8 | Romans 5:5 | I Corinthians 2:12 | I Corinthians 3:16 | 2 Corinthians 3:17 | Galatians 5:25 | Ephesians1:13-14

The Bible

The Bible is God’s divinely inspired Word to us.  God used over 40 different human authors, on three continents, in three languages, over the course of fifteen hundred years, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is absolute in its authority, final in its content, and without any error in its teaching and it is applicable to all time.
Psalm 12:6 | Psalm 119:105 | Psalm 160 | Proverbs 30:5 | 2 Timothy 3:16 | 2 Peter 1:20-21

Man

Man is the highlight of God’s creation, made to be like Him in character.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”.  This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.
Genesis 1:27 | Genesis 3 | Psalm 8:3-6 | Isaiah 53:6 | Isaiah 59:1-2 | Romans 3:23

The Church

The church is the body of Christ-followers obeying Jesus’ command to  make disciples and spread His love.  All true followers of Jesus should take an active part in the local church for encouragement, and to be nurtured, in order to grow to maturity in faith.  The church is locally governed by godly men known as elders.
Matthew 28: 18-20 | Acts 2:24-27 | Romans 12:4-5 | Galatians 6:10 | Ephesians 4:3-13,16 | I Peter 2:4-5 | I Thessalonians 5:17 | Titus 1:5

Eternity

People will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is eternal death in hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.
John 3:16 | John 14:17 | Romans 6:23 | Romans 7:17-18 | I Corinthians 2:7-9 | Revelation 20:15
